  1. The IP address of one of my mailservers was on Ivenue's RBL. How did it get there?
    Ivenue has a process that extracts the IP of any mail server that sent an email that was submitted as spam. That IP is put into the RBL along with the date and information about why/how it ended up there.
  2. How can I keep my mailservers off Ivenue's RBL?
    We also have a whitelist used to prevent well known service providers (AOL, Ticketmaster, etc) mail servers from getting onto the RBL. If you set up your SPF record, this is a good first step into getting that info into our whitelist.
  3. Sending emails to users on Ivenue's service gets blocked by SpamAssassin. Can SpamAssassin be turned off?
    No, SpamAssassin cannot be turned off. Ivenue customers can call Customer Support and have senders whitelisted. Customer Support can also configure customer email boxes to accept all email (even spam), but not for forwarders. See also the next FAQ item about the Webmail Address Book feature.
  4. I'm trying send email to a Ivenue customer, but SpamAssassin is blocking it. Can Ivenue's customer do anything to lower the spam score of the email I'm trying to send?
    Yes, by putting your email address into their Webmail Address Book, a large number of points get deducted from the spam score, ensuring your email makes it past spam scanning.
  5. What is the maxium size email that can be sent to an Ivenue customer?
    40 MegaBytes. If you have multiple attachments that exceed this limit, break it into multiple seperate emails to lower the size per email. Attachments get encoded using a very inefficient format for sending across the internet, so it is possible for an email with 30 MegaBytes of attachments to actually be 40 MegaBytes in size.
  6. I'm an Ivenue customer and the RBL is not letting me send emails. Can I turn off RBL checking when trying to send emails?
    No, however there is a solution. We have seperate mail servers for Ivenue customers to use with your email and password, commonly referred to as SMTP Authentication or ESMTP. Configure your mail client to send on port 587 instead of port 25 and it will use those different servers. Contact Customer Support for help configuring your mail client for this mode.
  7. I'm an Ivenue customer having trouble sending. Small test messages get sent ok, but longer messages or those with attachments just sit in the Outbox.
    This is likely a network issue where your firewall is blocking all ICMP packets. There are several types of ICMP, the one most people are familiar with is ping. It's common to block ping as a part of protecting your computer from malicious hackers. However, blocking all ICMP is an erroneous configuration because it prevents your computer from being able to communicate with servers to properly set basic parameters that allow traffic to pass back and forth to you computer. This is usually an indication that your ISP provides service to you using PPPOE (common in DSL). Your firewall is likely preventing the negotiation of the settings which will let traffic above a certain size flow properly. This is a very complex issue and it is usually very difficult to diagnose.
  8. I'm an Ivenue customer. How can I set up an SPF record for my domain?
    Contact Customer Support. A very basic SPF record gets installed when a domain is created. To customize it, Customer Support must make the change. Read the SPF section on this website or read the official OpenSPF website for more detailed info. When you contact Customer Support, they will use the OpenSPF website to build your SPF record.
  9. I'm an Ivenue customer. How can I set up a Domain Keys or DKIM record for my domain?
    This is a feature that is slated for the future. The resolution will be the same as the previous question about SPF.
